Chytridiomycota: Little pot
The name Chytridiomycota is derived from the Greek chytridion, meaning "little pot", describing the structure containing unreleased zoospores. Chytridiomycota is the most ancient group of fungi. Chytridiomycota reproduce asexually by releasing flagellated zoospores derived through mitosis. They also reproduce sexually by releasing spores with flagellum. They are normally found in freshwater and wet soils. |
